Hardley’s Building

Est. 1935.  This two-story stripped Classical and Art Deco style building was built for the Hardley brothers. A band of Art Deco fret runs horizontally along the frontage of the building beneath the parapet. The façade is divided into three bays with the two outer bays recessed and including two multi-paned windows protected by concrete hoods underneath which are decorative panels with a repeated circular pattern. In December 1934 Bartlett’s Shoe Store advertised that they had moved from Wharf Street into Hardley’s new building.
