Red Square (1973-1985) | Mid City Mall (est. 1985): A pedestrian mall whose red paving stones coined the name ‘Red Square’. In 1985 blue and white pavers were added to symbolise the water that ran down the street from a nearby spring. A complete makeover to the façade of the building that replaced the Star Hotel on the corner of Spring Street and Devonport Road took place in 2018 with pod-like feature balconies boldly clad in panels of tiger orange and black.
