Munro’s Building

Est. 1918.  On the corner of the Strand and Wharf Street this building replaces a block of earlier wooden ones destroyed in the 1916 Strand Fire. The reinforced concrete building accommodated nine shops. A second story was added in 1936, with a curved corner and textured plaster finish. In 2017, 49m of tidal stairs, a 27m pier and 24m x 3m floating pontoon were built opposite the building, where once the Town Wharf (1871-2007) stood.
