Spring Well Brewery

1873-1912.  Later the Security Buildings (est. 1916):  Early township residents had a reliable water source in the spring that overflowed down Spring Street but had to use blue gum piles in this area due to the damp conditions. The Spring Well Brewery was established here and supplied all the Tauranga hotels, their No. 4 ale said to be ‘the most palatable ale of colonial manufacture we have ever tasted.’ Destroyed by fire in 1911, and replaced by the two-story Security Buildings.
