Tauranga Police Station

Est. 2013.  In 1880 a Police Station was built which included a cottage, three cells, a stable for their horses, and storeroom. An unsuccessful attempt to rob Tauranga’s National Bank in 1881 saw the bank manager receive a face full of pepper, and the would-be robber in the hands of the Police. Prisoners were often released on request to make up numbers in the hockey teams or to milk the Constable’s cows.
