Tauranga Primary School

Est. 1904.  Sarah Elizabeth Wade (née Gorringe) started the first European-style school at the Te Papa Mission Station for female Māori on 20 August 1835. Other schools followed then in 1904 this site was chosen, and buildings moved here using bullocks. In November 1938, a five roomed block was opened by the Hon. Peter Fraser. Near to the building stands a bronze school bell and a belfry said to be constructed in 1978 when an original building was demolished.
